Dr. Takaya Yamazato is a Professor and Deputy Director at the Institute of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Nagoya University, Japan. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Keio University in 1993. He joined Nagoya University as an Assistant Professor in 1993 and later served as a visiting researcher at the University of Kaiserslautern (1997–1998).He received the IEEE Communications Society Best Tutorial Paper Award in 2006. Dr. Yamazato founded Nagoya University OpenCourseWare in 2005 and has contributed to its management since then. He has served on the boards of JOCW, Open Education Japan (OEJ), and, since 2024, Open Education Global (OEG).He was a member of the IEEE Communications Society Board of Governors (2016–2017) and Director of the Asia/Pacific Board. He has also held key editorial roles in IEICE, including Editor-in-Chief of IEICE Transactions on Communications (Japanese Section) and Chair of the IEICE Communications Society Editorial Board. Since 2024, he has served as Director of Journals and Transactions of IEICE.His research interests include visible light communication, intelligent transport systems, stochastic resonance, and open educational resources.
