Shagun Kaur is a Communication Studies faculty member at De Anza College and a statewide leader in open educational resources (OER) and zero-textbook-cost (ZTC) initiatives through the ASCCC OERI. Her work focuses on building sustainable, faculty-driven pathways that expand access, reduce costs, and center equity in teaching and learning.She has led large-scale OER and ZTC efforts at both the campus and state levels, supporting dozens of faculty through training, course redesign, and implementation. Her approach emphasizes practical, hands-on professional development, helping faculty adopt accessible, high-quality materials while maintaining ownership of their curriculum. She is deeply engaged in shared governance and regularly collaborates with faculty, administrators, and statewide partners to advance student-centered policy and practice.Shagun is also an experienced presenter and facilitator, leading workshops and sessions across California on topics including open pedagogy, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and OER integration. Her work consistently bridges strategy and implementation, ensuring that initiatives translate into meaningful classroom impact.She is a recipient of the 2025–26 Hayward Award for Excellence in Education, recognizing her leadership, innovation, and commitment to advancing equitable student success.
