About me
Based in Vancouver Canada Paul Stacey is an independent consultant on open education and the strategic use of open in education, science, culture and other sectors. From 2022 through to current times Paul helped SPARC Europe connect Open Science with Open Education through their Connecting the Opens initiative. Worked with SPARC Europe (and others) on the feasibility of establishing a European Open Education Alliance. And worked with the Open Education Network developing guidance for academic libraries on how to facilitate the planning and implementation of open education programs. From 2018 through 2022 Paul was Executive Director of Open Education Global where he led a global team in advocating for and adopting open education policy, practices and resources with members around the world. The 2019 adoption of the UNESCO Open Educational Resources (OER) Recommendation led Paul to form the Network of Open Organizations to collectively support its recommendation. From 2013 to 2017 Paul worked at Creative Commons where he led development of the Creative Commons Certificates and supported open education and open culture efforts around the world. While at Creative Commons Paul and his colleague Sarah Pearson co-wrote a book called "Made With Creative Commons" exploring sustainable open business models.
