About me
Mariana Porta is a sociologist and holds a PhD in Informatics in Education from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and Universidad de la República (UFRGS–Udelar). She is a faculty member and researcher at Universidad de la República, Uruguay, where she works at the intersection of open education, digital transformation, and higher education teaching practices. Her research integrates sociological and socio-technical perspectives to examine how digital technologies—including generative artificial intelligence, learning analytics, and open educational resources—reshape teaching, learning, and knowledge production in higher education.Her work has focused on course design, teacher professional development, and the co-design of digital pedagogical tools, including an application to support university course planning. She has contributed to nationally and internationally funded research projects on open science, educational data, and inclusive digital education and has published in peer-reviewed journals and international conference proceedings.Mariana is a member of the UNESCO Chair on Open Education at Udelar and actively contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives on open education and open science in Latin America. Her recent work explores the relationship between open education, epistemic justice, and AI governance, with particular attention to equity, territorial contexts, and resilient educational systems.
