About me
Dr. Lisa Young is a longtime advocate for open education and learner centered innovation in higher education. She recently retired after more than 30 years with the Maricopa County Community College District, where she served in several leadership roles, including Faculty Administrator for Open Education and Innovation. During that time, she helped support and scale the Maricopa Millions initiative, which later became Open Maricopa, contributing to efforts that have saved students more than $240 million in textbook costs through the adoption and creation of open educational resources.Dr. Young’s work focuses on expanding access and opportunity through open education, microcredentials, and skills based learning pathways. She is the Founder and Principal of EDU Essentials Consulting, where she collaborates with institutions and partners to explore approaches to open microcredentials, skills alignment, and learner mobility. She has contributed to conversations and emerging frameworks related to open durable skills microcredentials and Learning and Employment Records.She currently serves on the governing body of the Trusted Learner Network and as Executive Director of the Proctor Foundation for Art and Science. Dr. Young has been honored with the OE Global President’s Award and the OERizona Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her contributions to the open education community.
