About me
Dr. Kaitlin Bonner is an Associate Professor of Biology and Open Education Faculty Fellow at St. John Fisher University. As a passionate educator and student advocate, she brings a deep commitment to making STEM education more inclusive, accessible, and affordable. Her teaching spans a diverse range of subjects, from introductory biology and human anatomy for nursing majors to upper-level evolution, parasitology, and genetics. She is part of an innovative curricular team that has redesigned their introductory biology series as a workshop model leveraging the Open Education Ecosystem to enable all first and second-year major courses to be textbook cost-free. She contributes to the development of peer-reviewed Open Educational Resources (OER), using real-world phenomena to ground research questions and facilitate deep classroom discussions on the intersections of science, ethics, and policy. In her role as Director of Professional Development, she leads professional development opportunities around Open Pedagogy, OER and AI, and inclusive practices in STEM, in addition to serving as logistical support to numerous Learning Communities provided through RIOS. Through her collaborative work with the RIOS Institute, Dr. Bonner continues to advocate for transformative, transparent, and equitable learning environments for all students.
