About me
Chris Macek is the co-founder of Clear Box, a mission-driven organization working to make public good software approachable and trustworthy. He leads development and designs systems that make it possible, a role that comes naturally after 20 years of doing the same thing in recording studios.
Chris is a studio owner and audio engineer with credits across music charts and major film, in standard and emerging formats like Dolby Atmos. His career designing studios and mentoring audio engineers gave him an understanding of how complex systems behave where each decision affects everything downstream, including attribution and credits.
OER entered his world through his partner and Clear Box co-founder Victoria Brame, an academic librarian and open education advocate. What Chris recognized immediately was a familiar problem: attribution was incomplete, and AI was about to make it worse. In response he created DARP, a layered attribution framework that tracks who shaped what and how.
Chris believes knowledge is a right and that the tools people use to access it should be transparent enough to verify, private enough to protect, and accountable enough to deserve trust. He’s committed to executing these ideas in the open rather than watching them end up behind a paywall.
