Delmar Larsen is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of California, Davis, and a leading advocate for open education. He is the founder and CEO of the LibreTexts project, one of the world’s largest open educational resource (OER) platforms, providing freely accessible, customizable textbooks across multiple disciplines. Larsen’s work focuses on democratizing access to high-quality educational materials through technology and collaborative authorship.Trained as a physical chemist, his academic interests include molecular structure, spectroscopy, and chemical education innovation. Beyond research and teaching, he has played a key role in advancing open pedagogy, encouraging students and faculty to co-create and share knowledge openly. His efforts have significantly influenced the global OER movement, helping reduce textbook costs while expanding access to education worldwide.
