Dr Alexandra Okada is Associate Research Professor in Global Education and Digital Transformation at The Open University UK and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is an internationally recognised expert in open learning and AI for sustainable futures, focusing on equity, inclusion, climate justice, and Responsible Research and Innovation.EU Expert Advisor on STEM education and RRI, expert member of the UNESCO Inclusive Policy Lab, contributor to UNESCO Global Education Coalition, co-chair of UNESCO Unplugged AI initiative, supporting global policy dialogue on ethical and inclusive education systems globally.She integrates sociocultural theory, critical pedagogy, and mixed-methods approaches and AI to advance sustainable inclusive learning ecosystems aligned with the SDGs. She has led major international projects including currently CONNECT, METEOR and CATCH-UP, securing over €25M in funding and engaging networks of teachers, students and researchers worldwide.Her scholarly outputs include books, including Springer volumes on AI and knowledge mapping, peer-reviewed articles, policy reports, and influential frameworks such as CARE-KNOW-DO for participatory inquiry-based learning.She collaborates with governments, NGOs, industry, and multilateral organisations to translate research into practice, shaping curriculum reform, teacher development, and digital education policy across Europe, Latin America, and beyond.
