About me
Janet Barry is a registered pharmacist and academic based in South Africa, currently serving as Stream Coordinator of Pharmaceutical Chemistry in the Bachelor of Pharmacy programme at Nelson Mandela University. She holds a B.Pharm degree (1995) from the University of Port Elizabeth and an M.Pharm degree (2022) from Nelson Mandela University, where her research focused on academic staff perceptions on blended learning in health sciences education.Janet’s career covers clinical practice, pharmaceutical industry, pharmaceutical chemistry and academia. Janet began as an intern and pharmacist at Livingstone Hospital before spending over a decade as a sales consultant at Johnson & Johnson Ethicon. Since joining academia in 2012, she has played a key role in curriculum development, module coordination across all years of the BPharm programme, and postgraduate supervision.Her research interests include pharmacy education, wound care, and the role of community pharmacists in primary healthcare. She has presented at national and international conferences and contributed to peer-reviewed publications on diabetic foot ulcer management and interprofessional collaboration.Janet received the Faculty Excellence Teacher Award in 2023 and is actively involved in professional and regulatory initiatives within the pharmacy sector.
